SSC CGL 2026 Registration Opens for 12,256 Vacancies

Synopsis: SSC opens registrations for the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026, announcing 12,256 vacancies across central government departments with Tier I and Tier II exams scheduled later this year.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has now started the registration work for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026, and it is bringing as many as 12,256 vacancies spread across different Group B and Group C roles in central government ministries, departments, and office spaces. In general, this recruitment push is being seen as one of the biggest government hiring efforts aimed at graduates in India this year, kind of a major stepping stone for many aspirants.
Eligible candidates can send in their applications via the official SSC portal till June 22, 2026. The commission additionally said that the application correction window will stay active from June 29 to July 1, so applicants can update the submitted details if needed.
As per the official notification, the Tier I examination is planned to happen between August and September 2026, while the Tier II examination is expected sometime in December 2026. The selection will be carried out by computer based examinations across two stages. SSC also mentioned that the marks gathered in different shifts will be normalised following the commission’s own prescribed methodology, so that evaluation stays fair and balanced.

The Tier I examination will be made up of 100 objective type questions, with a total of 200 marks and a duration of one hour, so it is like pretty fixed. The questions will be there in both English and Hindi, though the English Comprehension part is an exception. Some reports also mention sectional timing changes, which are expected to really make time handling more critical during the whole examination flow, because well, the clock will matter more than usual.
For SSC CGL 2026 the application fee sits at ₹100, but women candidates, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, and eligible Ex-servicemen are exempted from paying it. The fee amount can be paid using a few online ways like UPI, net banking, and debit cards, depending on what you prefer.
The announcement has kicked up quite a bit of interest among government job aspirants all across the nation, mostly because of the huge number of vacancies and the long term career stability linked to central government roles.
