IIT Kharagpur, NALSAR Join Hands on Legal Research

IIT Kharagpur and NALSAR University have signed an MoU to strengthen legal education through joint research, interdisciplinary programmes, faculty exchanges, innovation, and policy-focused academic collaboration.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad has come together in a collaborative partnership to build synergies in the areas of legal education, research, and innovation. The two leading institutes have entered into an agreement through signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of ensuring excellence in academics through a combination of law, technology, public policy, and innovation.
Under the MoU, the two universities will conduct research projects, hold academic conferences, seminars, workshops, and training sessions, while ensuring exchange visits by both faculty members and students. The aim is also to provide for the development of interdisciplinary curriculum which shall encourage both students and researchers to look into the interconnection of law with technology, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and public policy.

The association will enable both institutions to tap into the strength that both IIT Kharagpur and NALSAR University have with regard to sciences, technology, engineering, innovation, and law and jurisprudence in order to come up with innovative solutions to legal problems faced in modern times.
Both sides stressed the significance of interdisciplinary cooperation in getting their graduates ready for the changing world of law and technology. The representatives pointed out those new areas like digital governance, data protection, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, fintech, and environmental regulation demand people who have both knowledge about law and technical skills. Thus, the cooperation will help advance academic research and create new experiential learning and industry engagement possibilities.
The partnership will further drive innovation by engaging in publications, research collaborations, internship programs, expert talks, and knowledge exchanges. Both academic institutions' faculties and students would gain from having access to common academic resources and working on multidisciplinary projects that address national and international issues. The project is consistent with the goals of the NEP (National Education Policy) 2020 in India that stresses multidisciplinary education, research, innovation, and industry-academia connections.

The signing of the MoU marks yet another important step taken towards promoting collaboration between some of the premier educational institutes of India. Leveraging the combined expertise in law, technology, and innovation, the objective of IIT Kharagpur and NALSAR University is to create an effective eco-system for conducting cutting-edge legal research, policy formulation, and training. It is hoped that the collaboration will not only result in productive academic output but also equip students with the skills required to deal with challenging legal situations in the technological world.
