NLU Delhi Launches Online Certificate in Consumer Law

The National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) has disclosed the 5th iteration of its online certificate program in Consumer Law and Practice. The course will be held on October 11–12. The initiative is conducted with the support of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
The course intends to discuss the changing facets of consumer protection in India, particularly considering the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and to examine how its implementation is advancing. It will additionally address topics such as product liability, mediation, and the obstacles arising from the digital economy such as algorithmic bias, misleading trade practices, and the function of regulators in protecting consumer rights.
Applicants who qualify consist of faculty, researchers, advocates, undergraduate and graduate students, consumer rights activists, NGOs, and voluntary consumer organizations (VCOs). The fee for registration is Rs 2,000 for each participant and is non-refundable. Seating is restricted and will be distributed on a “first-come, first-served” principle.
After completing the course successfully, participants will obtain a certificate from the NLUD Chair on Consumer Law. To enroll, candidates are required to submit payment and upload a screenshot of the transaction using the specified Google Form to verify their attendance.

The main themes and highlights of the course cover the essential aspects of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019; the operations and responsibilities of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), such as investigations, inquiries, and injunctive measures; and mediation as an alternative resolution method to litigation. The initiative also tackles the effects of deceptive advertising, influencer promotion, greenwashing, and corresponding regulatory actions.
Participants will examine recent significant rulings, policy frameworks, and new developments in digital commerce and cross-border consumer protection. Subsequent sessions will explore the interaction between sectoral regulators such as the Competition Commission of India, SEBI, TRAI, FSSAI, and IRDAI and consumer law, along with recent legal and policy advancements both locally and internationally.
