IIM Sambalpur Launches UG BS in Data Science, AI & Policy

• 178 students enrolled across Data Science, AI, and Public Policy programs.
• Admissions via JEE Main, CUET; top ranks highlight strong academic excellence.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has launched its first undergraduate programmes, featuring the Bachelor of Science in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and the Bachelor of Science in Management & Public Policy.

The initiatives, revealed previously in May 2025 as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, have officially started with the first cohort at the Sambalpur campus in Odisha.

An official statement reveals that the initial batch consists of 178 students – 88 in Data Science & AI and 90 in the management and public policy course. Students hail from over 20 states, such as Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Lakshadweep.

The IIM Sambalpur Data Science & IIM Sambalpur AI course consists of 69 male students and 19 female students, whereas the IIM Sambalpur public policy program has 51 male and 39 female students.

Admissions to the Data Science & AI program were determined by JEE (Main) 2025, with the top admitted rank being 44,645. The Management & Public Policy program accepted students via CUET (UG) 2025, with the highest achievers reaching a 99.80 percentile. The academic qualifications of the cohort reveal an average Class 12 score of 90.5% for Data Science & AI and 88.2% for Management & Public Policy.

According to a statement from the institute, the BS program in Management and Public Policy aims to address national demands in sustainability, ESG, and community-driven development, preparing students to connect policy with grassroots implementation.

The BS in Data Science and AI emphasizes developing digital skills and competitiveness, promoting the adoption of ethical AI in accordance with IIM Sambalpur’s commitment to innovation with integrity.
