NIT Srinagar, IIM Jammu Sign MoU to Boost J&K Startups

NIT Srinagar, IIM Jammu and the J&K Government have signed a five-year MoU under Mission YUVA to strengthen startup incubation in Kashmir, offering technical infrastructure, mentorship, market access and seed funding of up to ₹6 lakh.

The National Institute of Technology(NIT) Srinagar, IIM Jammu’s YUVA Innovation Hub, and the Directorate of Employment under the Government of Jammu and Kashmir have signed a five-year tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the Union Territory’s startup and innovation ecosystem. The agreement brings the Greenovator Incubation Foundation (GIF) at NIT Srinagar into the Mission YUVA network as a regional incubation node for Kashmir.

The collaboration comes under Mission YUVA-Neo-Innovative Enterprises, the J&K Government’s flagship entrepreneurship initiative. The programme aims to train, incubate and support 500 innovative enterprises across Jammu and Kashmir between 2025 and 2030 through YUVA Innovation Hubs anchored at IIM Jammu and a network of incubation centres across the region. The YUVA Innovation Hub will provide strategic coordination, training, mentorship and investor linkages.

Under the partnership, GIF will function as a regional platform for identifying and developing early-stage enterprises in Kashmir. Selected startups will gain access to NIT Srinagar’s laboratories, workspace, technical equipment, advisory support and mentorship. The initiative will also facilitate market access, business-to-business linkages, trade-fair participation, e-commerce readiness and opportunities in public procurement.

The incubation programme will focus on technology-intensive areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, nanotechnology, Internet of Things, cyber security and robotics. NIT Srinagar’s technical infrastructure and research capabilities are expected to help entrepreneurs move from research and prototypes towards commercialisation and market deployment.

Selected Neo-Innovative Enterprises will also be eligible for government seed funding of up to ₹6 lakh, subject to prescribed selection and funding conditions. The support can be utilised for proof-of-concept development, prototyping and product trials, providing startups with early-stage capital alongside technical and business assistance.

Government officials said the institutional partnership is intended to create a stronger pipeline from innovation to viable businesses and employment generation. Mission YUVA Director and Mission Director Harvinder Singh said the initiative would connect young innovators with incubation, technology, markets, mentorship and finance. NIT Srinagar Director Prof. Anurag Misra highlighted the institute’s research ecosystem and technical expertise as key resources for technology-driven entrepreneurship.
