MIT Announces Knight Fellowship for Science Journalists

- MIT fellowship invites global journalists to enhance science reporting skills.
- Hands-on training, seminars, and courses at leading universities are provided.
- $85,000 stipend plus housing, travel, and health support included.
The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT is currently inviting applications from science journalists globally for its year-long fellowship. Designed to improve journalists' comprehension of science and technology, the fellowship assists participants in honing their reporting abilities and investigating a particular area of interest while partnering with well-known research institutions in Cambridge and Boston.
The program integrates organized education with independent investigation. Participants engage in seminars conducted by leading researchers and media specialists, acquiring knowledge about new scientific areas and discussions. Workshops focused on skills provide fellows with hands-on experience in mobile video creation, photography, digital editing, data-driven journalism, and podcasting. Participants can also take courses for credit at MIT, Harvard, and other local universities, enabling them to create a customized academic journey that features at least one science course each semester.
Community events, social gatherings, and group activities enhance the experience and promote enduring professional connections. Every fellow receives an $85,000 stipend distributed over 9.5 months, in addition to a housing and travel allowance and essential health insurance for themselves and their families. This assistance allows journalists to engage fully in the programme without financial strain.
Candidates must be experienced, full-time journalists specializing in science or related fields. Eligibility requirements include at least three consecutive years dedicated to science, health, technology, or the environment, experience in any media format (print, digital, audio, video, or multimedia), no completion of a long-term fellowship within the past two years, demonstrated journalistic excellence and commitment, along with compliance with programme rules concerning AI usage in application submissions.

Candidates must submit a statement of purpose, a career summary, a resume, a research project proposal, three recent work samples, and contact information for three professional references. The application deadline is January 09, 2026. Visit the Knight Science Journalism website to apply.
