Japanese Firms to Offer Jobs and Training for Anna University Students

A delegation of 26 representatives from six Japanese companies attended Anna University in Chennai to present possible career opportunities for engineering students. They stressed that by learning Japanese language and culture, it could provide a global career for them.
The representatives encouraged students from the College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), and Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) to consider internships in Japan to be exposed to the work culture, local culture, and food.
The event was held as part of the India Japan Talent Bridge Programme, which is a Japanese government programme and was promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). As part of the event, the delegation held a talent exchange and career seminar for over 300 students.
Naotaka Nishiyama, founder and CEO of Talendy-By Tech Japan noted that Japan intends to recruit 50,000 students from India in a five-year period, and to start interns in between, which would help to reduce cultural and professional lag.

K Shanmuga Sundaram, director of Anna University's Centre for University-Industry Collaboration, explained that the seminar highlighted population demand by Japan for IT engineers or expertise in product development, and that he expects more students to participate in placement drives in 2026. Japanese firms are offering salaries that exceed Rs 20 lakh annually for skilled students, and offering to sponsor Japanese language courses.
Anna University is also developing joint academic programs with Japanese universities to establish dual-degree programs and enhance student mobility. The delegation will next visit IISc Bengaluru and IIT Gandhinagar to further develop these opportunities.
