Cal State Long Beach Launches Taiwan Dual Degree Program

California State University, Long Beach and Taiwan's Ming Chuan University introduce dual-degree graduate programmes from Fall 2027, enabling students to earn two degrees through a single tuition pathway while expanding global academic collaboration.

The California State University at Long Beach, or CSULB for short, forms a strategic alliance with Ming Chuan University of Taiwan to create joint master degree programmes that will give students a chance to obtain degrees from both universities via one programme. The joint programmes are set to begin in Fall 2027.

The partnership brings in two new graduate programs which will help improve the learning experience of the students on a global scale. First, the program allows the students to obtain their Master of Business Administration from CSULB along with their International Business and Trade from Ming Chuan University. The second program is a combination of Asian studies from CSULB and teaching Chinese as a foreign language from MCU. This program will enable the graduates to gain interdisciplinary skills with an international perspective.

This collaboration has been based on an ongoing association between the two universities, who have provided an opportunity to its students for participating in exchange programs for almost two decades now. According to the authorities of the university, the new approach in the form of dual degree program is a logical step forward in the association of both institutions. In the initial stage, each program would enroll around 15 to 20 students per cohort.

The students who have chosen the business program are supposed to learn through hands-on experience by working together with various organizations like the Port of Long Beach and gain knowledge about international business, logistics, and global supply chains. In contrast, the purpose of the humanities program is to develop cross-cultural awareness and language learning by connecting students from Taiwan and America.

Apart from the students’ mobility, the partnership will enable the two institutions to explore collaborations and joint research in the developing fields of artificial intelligence and semiconductors technology. Since Taiwan is known to be at the forefront in semiconductor production and California is one of the major centers of AI research and development, both universities have high hopes that their cooperation will lead to interdisciplinary research, innovations, and information exchange. Combining academic performance with international experience, CSULB and Ming Chuan University intend to train their students for the future global competition.
