Education Loans Up to Rs 7.5 Lakh Get Credit Guarantee Cover

The government expands the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans to cooperative banks, widening access to collateral-free education loans of up to ₹7.5 lakh for eligible students.
Credit Guarantee Scheme for Education Loans (CGFSEL) is extended to cover cooperative banks in order to provide wider institutional access to educational funds for students enrolled in higher studies. This is done in an effort to make educational loans more easily available, especially to those students who might find it difficult to give collateral or a guarantor.
Through this enhanced model, the eligible students will be able to secure an education loan worth up to ₹7.5 lakh with the advantage of a credit guarantee backed by the government. The credit guarantee system helps reduce the risk assumed by the lending organizations and also encourages banks to extend education loan to eligible students instead of providing significant collateral.

Expansion to cooperative banks is important since these kinds of banks are present in great numbers at the regional and local level. Expansion to these banks will provide another avenue through which students can access educational financing through official means.
The CGFSEL system has been put in place to help students who need funds for their higher education in India. There can be education loans for tuition fees, examination fees, boarding and lodging, and other eligible expenditure related to the program. The presence of the guarantee in credit is especially helpful for families which do not have enough assets to act as collateral.
The move is made in the context of ongoing measures geared towards increasing the accessibility of higher education via financial aid. Increasing costs of tuition fees, accommodation and other academic expenses may pose financial barriers to entry especially in regard to professional courses.

The inclusion of cooperative banks within the credit guarantee system aims to improve the loan-education system, ensuring more involvement of lenders in the process. This step could also benefit students residing in small towns by allowing them to borrow money from banks nearer to their localities.

The revised plan is anticipated to serve well for those students who satisfy the required eligibility criteria and borrow money up to the limit. Nevertheless, the applicants will have to fulfill the requirements of the lending institution prior to getting the loan approved.
This is yet another attempt made by the government to make higher education more affordable and accessible. The extension of credit guarantee facility to co-operative banks will ensure that reliance on collateral is decreased and students can get finance for higher education.
