The admission process is open to non-Indian nationals, including candidates holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. All applicants can submit their applications for postgraduate and research programs which the institute offers through its various academic departments and research centers.

The application process requires candidates to submit their English proficiency self-declaration together with two referee names who will write recommendation letters about their academic and research capacities.

The specific programme requirements determine which standardized test scores applicants must submit from GATE, UGC NET, CSIR NET, or DST INSPIRE. The application process for some programs requires candidates to submit international test scores such as GRE or GMAT.

The institute has instructed future applicants to examine the program-specific eligibility requirements together with its application guidelines which are located on the main website of the institute.

IIT Delhi invites foreign students to apply because the university wants to build international partnerships while creating a diverse campus environment which will help the university become a worldwide research and educational institution.

The international academic network expansion through this initiative will enable the institute to create new opportunities for international knowledge sharing with other nations.
