India, Moldova to Sign Higher Education Cooperation Pact

India and Moldova are set to ink a fresh cooperation agreement in higher education, an important development that will go a long way in fostering greater cooperation between the educational institutions and people of the two countries. This was announced during the landmark state visit of President Droupadi Murmu to Moldova, which is the first visit ever by an Indian Head of State after diplomatic ties were established in 1992.

During the press conference along with the president of Moldova Maia Sandu, President Murmu emphasized the significance of education as an important pillar for the bilateral ties between the two countries. President Sandu confirmed that the process of negotiation of the new higher education cooperation agreement was completed successfully and that the document will be signed soon.

The partnership on education is based on the expanding cooperation in the educational sphere between the two nations. As per the information provided by the Moldovian authorities, there are about 1,400 students from India who are enrolled in universities in Moldova, with most of them pursuing medicine. Education is one among many other issues under the broader strategy that seeks to strengthen the two nations’ cooperation in areas such as trade, investments, technology, health care, energy, agriculture, and digital innovations. While in the discussions, both the two leaders pledged their commitment towards establishing strong strategic partnerships and institutional linkages that would bring about sustainable development for the two countries.

The new agreement is anticipated to promote collaboration between universities from both India and Moldova by engaging in research projects, faculty exchanges, and academic collaborations aimed at tackling the global challenges that have arisen.
