The Government of Ireland has launched its International Education Scholarship programme for the year 2026, providing an excellent chance for international students to avail themselves of higher education in Ireland with generous funding support.
The application deadline for the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) has been set from January 29, 2026, and candidates can submit their applications until 5 pm Irish time on March 12, 2026.
The Government of Ireland, in partnership with Irish higher education providers and administered by the HEA, has established an excellent scholarship scheme, which attracts the best talents worldwide.
The scholarship programme provides an opportunity for up to sixty (60) high-achieving students to apply each year to receive full-fee waivers and €10,000 per annum as a living expense for one complete year of study, primarily for beginning or continuing their master’s degree (master’s level), postgraduate diploma or PhD programme at an approved Irish university.

Eligibility criteria include the fact that the applicant must be from outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK, and must have a conditional or final offer of admission to an eligible program at an Irish higher education institution at the time of application. Applicants who have received the GOI-IES scholarship in the past are not eligible to reapply.
The criteria used in the selection process include academic excellence, communication skills, involvement in extracurricular activities, and the motivation and career goals of the candidate in relation to pursuing studies in Ireland. The shortlisted applications are assessed by an independent panel following institutional screening.
This scholarship program not only helps in relieving the cost of studying abroad but also helps Ireland in becoming an attractive destination for international students. Students, who want to study abroad, especially at the postgraduate or research level, can benefit from this scholarship.
