National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27, Apply Online

The Centre opens applications for the National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27 for eligible students from specified disadvantaged communities. The scheme supports Master’s and PhD studies abroad through financial assistance.
The ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is now inviting applications for National Overseas Scholarships (NOS) 2026-27. This is a scheme that provides financial assistance to eligible candidates wishing to pursue their higher studies abroad at institutions other than those in India. This scheme will benefit the candidates belonging to the identified communities applying for Master’s/PhD courses.
This scholarship aims at minimizing the financial constraints of those students who would like to study abroad but could find it hard to raise money required to pursue their studies abroad. As per the scheme, the chosen scholars get financial aid for some essential costs involved in foreign studies like tuition fee, living expenses, and flight insurance among others.

The eligibility criteria for the National Overseas Scholarship are that the candidate should be from one of the eligible categories which include Scheduled Caste (SC), Denotified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labour and Traditional Artisan Families. The candidate must fulfill the criteria set by the scholarship guidelines.
In terms of academic criteria, students normally require securing a minimum of 60 per cent marks or an equivalent grade in the qualifying examination. Students who apply for admission to the Master’s course require the necessary Bachelor’s degree, and students seeking admission to the PhD course should have the necessary Master’s degree. The scheme further has a limit on the annual income of the family of ₹8 lakh.
Applicants have to apply online via the portal for the National Overseas Scholarship. Application involves registering and providing relevant personal, academic, and financial information. Applicants must also provide relevant information related to their foreign institution as well as admission offers, if applicable, along with other relevant documents.
In the past, the scholarship selection process has been organized by the government through various rounds of application, depending on the availability of scholarship seats. As per the rules of the scheme, applications which are incomplete are automatically disqualified from the scholarship, whereas selected applicants will be notified via the online portal.
