Oxford to Launch New Centre for Korean Studies

The University of Oxford is set to establish a dedicated Centre for Korean Studies, marking a significant step in expanding its focus on East Asian studies and strengthening academic engagement with South Korea. The centre is expected to be launched as early as October 2026 and will be formally announced during the opening of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities.
The new centre will function as a central research and educational facility which supports all academic activities about Korea. The center will unite scholars who study different fields of Korean studies which include language and history and culture and politics and economy.
The initiative is being led by prominent academics within Oxford's existing Korean studies programme and it recently received final approval from the university's humanities faculty.
The centre studies Korean Wave (Hallyu) and sustainability and international relations to develop international knowledge about Korea's increasing global impact.

The centre provides complete academic knowledge about Korea's worldwide presence through its research partnerships and expanded course catalog. The program will improve academic and cultural relationships between Oxford University and Korean educational institutions.
