The University of Western Australia has officially opened applications for its upcoming Chennai campus, marking a major milestone in its expansion into India and strengthening international education ties between the two countries.
The university's first overseas campus initiative demonstrates its commitment to India through its partnership with the National Education Policy, which promotes the establishment of international educational institutions in the country.
The Chennai campus, along with another planned facility in Mumbai, is expected to begin operations around August 2026, offering students access to internationally recognised degrees within India itself.
The Western Australian government has made a major investment in their new campus at DLF Cybercity Chennai which will establish an Indo-Australian educational partnership for future development.
The institution plans to initially enroll around 300 students and gradually expand its intake over the coming years, while also recruiting local and international faculty to maintain global academic standards.

The university aims to replicate the same curriculum and teaching approach followed at its main campus in Perth, ensuring consistency in quality and global relevance. The students will gain advantages through industry-linked programs and internships and collaborative efforts which focus on developing their employability and practical skills.
The initiative will create new research partnerships which will drive innovative research work because existing partnerships are currently being developed to study advanced technology and healthcare and ocean sciences.
The university will provide international academic experiences to Indian students through its world-class educational programs which will decrease their need to travel abroad.
The Chennai campus now accepts applications which represent an important development that will help India become a global higher education center while providing students with access to international educational opportunities.
