UP Explores Higher Education Partnership with UK-Based University

Uttar Pradesh is exploring a potential higher education partnership with the UK-based University of Portsmouth, with discussions focusing on strengthening academic and research collaboration between institutions in the state and the United Kingdom.

A high-level delegation from the University of Portsmouth met Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya in Lucknow to discuss opportunities for internationalising higher education. The meeting focused on developing stronger institutional links between universities in Uttar Pradesh and their UK counterparts.

Key areas discussed include expanding research partnerships and facilitating student and faculty exchange programmes. The proposed collaboration is also expected to support greater academic interaction and provide students and faculty members with opportunities for international exposure.

The discussions also place emphasis on academic excellence and innovation. Greater cooperation between universities could create avenues for joint research activities, knowledge exchange and academic programmes involving institutions from both regions.

The UK delegation comprises University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Galbraith and Pro Vice-Chancellor Chris Chang. Representatives from the British Council, including Parul Gupta and Ritika Chanda Parruck, are also part of the delegation.

The proposed engagement comes amid broader efforts to expand international collaboration in India’s higher education sector. India’s regulatory framework has enabled foreign universities to establish campuses and develop academic partnerships in the country, creating new opportunities for international education and research cooperation.
