IGNOU Launches BSc Fabric & Apparel Design FYUP

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of a new undergraduate programme, the BSc in Fabric and Apparel Design, under its Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) for the academic year starting January 2026.
The School of Continuing Education at IGNOU offers this course through its Open and Distance Learning (ODL) delivery method which allows students nationwide to complete the program without needing to visit campus.
The program includes multiple entry and exit points which match the requirements established by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Students who complete the first year of study will receive an Undergraduate Certificate while those who finish the second year will obtain a UG Diploma.
A student needs to complete three years of study to receive a BSc degree and then complete all four years to obtain a BSc (Honours) in Fabric and Apparel Design. The academic structure provides students with the ability to create personalized learning paths which support their professional development and academic achievements.
Eligible applicants must have completed their 10+2 education with Science as a compulsory stream to apply, and the medium of instruction will be English.

The programme curriculum integrates textile science with fashion design and garment construction together with other related subjects to give students both theoretical knowledge and practical skills which they need for the textile and apparel industry.
The three-year degree program requires students to complete 120 credits as their total degree requirement while examinations will take place each year.
The annual fee for the programme is ₹11,000, excluding registration and development charges, which provides students interested in fashion apparel manufacturing and textile science and entrepreneurship with an affordable educational option.
The program will provide study materials in both digital and print formats to improve accessibility for learners from different regions.
The program at IGNOU trains students to develop skills needed for their future work because the program teaches students how to work in design studios and apparel production units and merchandising and related fields.
