IIT Delhi Launches Online PG Diploma in VLSI Design

IIT Delhi launches a 12-month online Post Graduate Diploma in VLSI Design, offering weekend classes, hands-on projects and industry-oriented training for graduates and working professionals.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has launched a 12-month Online Post Graduate Diploma in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Design for graduates, postgraduates and working professionals seeking specialised skills in semiconductor and chip design. The programme is organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering through the Continuing Education Programme (CEP), IIT Delhi.

The programme begins on January 31, 2027, and concludes on January 30, 2028. Classes are conducted online on weekends, with sessions scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 12:30 pm and 2 pm to 5:30 pm. The official IIT Delhi programme page lists October 8, 2026 as the application deadline.

The programme is designed to provide learners with theoretical knowledge and practical exposure in VLSI design, covering areas required for the development and optimisation of semiconductor circuits and systems. The curriculum comprises 30 credits across two semesters and nine courses, combining live faculty-led sessions, laboratory work, mini projects and a major project.

The first semester covers Fundamental Circuit Analysis, Digital Electronics, Fundamentals of Analog Circuit Design, MOS VLSI and a Mini Project. The second semester includes Advanced Analog Design, Mixed Signal Circuit Design, an IEC Lab and a Major Project.

The curriculum covers circuit analysis, digital systems, analog circuits, MOS and CMOS technologies, static timing, power and area optimisation, mixed-signal circuits, data converters and integrated circuit design. The IEC Lab provides exposure to CMOS design flow, schematic design, simulation, layout, design-rule checking, layout-versus-schematic verification and parasitic extraction.

The major project enables participants to apply the concepts covered during the programme to integrated electronics, circuits and systems. IIT Delhi states that learners can develop a real-world design or system solution and validate it using industry-relevant simulation tools and experimentation.

The programme is open to graduates, postgraduates and working professionals with B.E./B.Tech. qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related areas, as well as candidates holding an M.Sc. in Physics or Electronics.

The total programme fee is ₹3,50,000, including GST. The application fee is ₹1,000 plus GST. IIT Delhi also provides an installment-based payment structure. An optional two-day campus immersion is included as a programme feature, while participants can also receive Affiliate Alumni Status from IIT Delhi subject to the applicable membership requirements.

The programme is coordinated by Professor Mukul Sarkar and Professor Ankesh Jain, with sessions delivered by IIT Delhi faculty and industry experts. On successful completion, participants receive the Online Post Graduate Diploma in VLSI Design from IIT Delhi.

With its combination of semiconductor fundamentals, hands-on laboratory training, design projects and exposure to industry-relevant tools, the programme provides a structured pathway for learners seeking specialised knowledge in VLSI and semiconductor design.
