GATE 2027 Registration Ends Sep 27, Check Deadline

GATE 2027 registration without a late fee closes on September 27, while applications with a late fee remain open until October 5. IIT Madras has not yet confirmed any further extension of the regular deadline.

The registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 without a late fee is scheduled to close on September 27, 2026. IIT Madras, the organising institute for GATE 2027, has also provided an extended registration period with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

Candidates who have not yet completed the application process are required to submit their forms through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) before the regular deadline. The examination is scheduled to be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The results are scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.

The possibility of another extension without a late fee remains a point of interest for applicants. In previous GATE admission cycles, organising institutes have extended registration deadlines in response to candidate requests. For GATE 2026, IIT Guwahati extends the regular registration period on multiple occasions, eventually allowing candidates to register without a late fee until October 7, 2025. The institute subsequently extends registration with a late fee until October 13.

However, there is currently no confirmed announcement from IIT Madras regarding an extension of the GATE 2027 regular registration deadline beyond September 27. Candidates therefore need to follow the existing schedule rather than rely on a possible extension.

IIT Madras also introduces changes to the registration process for GATE 2027. Indian applicants can now proceed with registration using an unverified DigiLocker account, although such applications remain subject to additional scrutiny. Candidates registering through an unverified account are required to present original documents for verification at the examination centre. The organising institute continues to recommend the use of a verified DigiLocker account.

Candidates can apply for one or two GATE papers, subject to the prescribed two-paper combinations. Applicants selecting two papers are required to submit a single application form and pay the applicable fee for both papers.

The regular application fee is Rs 1,000 per paper for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates, while other candidates, including foreign nationals, are required to pay Rs 2,000 per paper. During the extended registration period, the respective fees increase to Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500.

Candidates are advised to complete their applications by September 27 to avoid the late fee and regularly check the official GATE 2027 portal for any notification regarding changes to the schedule.
