IIT Bombay Announces UCEED, CEED 2027 Exam Dates

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has announced the examination dates for UCEED and CEED 2027, with both entrance tests scheduled to be conducted in a single shift on January 17, 2027. The institute released the preliminary schedule as part of preparations for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes at leading institutes across India.

UCEED, or the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design, is conducted for admission to Bachelor of Design programmes offered by IITs and participating institutes. CEED, the Common Entrance Examination for Design, is held for admissions to Master of Design and PhD programmes in design-related disciplines.

According to the official notification, both examinations will be conducted from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in a single-session format. The registration process for UCEED and CEED 2027 is expected to begin later this year through the official examination portal managed by IIT Bombay.

The exams evaluate candidates on creativity, design aptitude, visual perception, logical reasoning, problem-solving ability, observation skills, and drawing capabilities. Thousands of students from across the country appear annually for the examinations as demand for design education and creative technology programmes continues to grow in India.

IIT Bombay stated that detailed information regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures, examination patterns, syllabus updates, and counselling schedules will be released in the official information brochure closer to the registration period. Candidates are advised to regularly monitor official announcements for updates related to the admission process.

The design entrance examinations have gained increasing prominence as India’s design, animation, product development, user experience, and digital creative industries expand rapidly. Educational institutions are witnessing rising interest in interdisciplinary design programmes linked to technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystems.

Industry experts believe the growing demand for skilled designers across sectors such as consumer technology, mobility, gaming, healthcare, AI interfaces, and digital services is driving increased participation in design-focused higher education programmes. IITs and premier institutes are also expanding design research and innovation initiatives to meet evolving industry requirements.

The announcement gives aspirants an early timeline for preparation and planning ahead of one of India’s most competitive design entrance examination cycles.
