IIT Goa PhD Admissions 2026-27 Open Under Visvesvaraya Scheme

IIT Goa invites applications for full-time and part-time PhD programmes under the Visvesvaraya Scheme 2026-27 in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, with applications closing on September 30.

The Indian Institute of Technology Goa (IIT Goa) has invited applications for admission to its PhD programmes under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT, Phase II, for the academic year 2026-27. The admission round covers research areas related to Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and IT/IT-enabled services. Applications are invited for both full-time and part-time PhD programmes.

The online application process begins on September 18, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications and complete the fee payment by September 30, 2026, at 5 PM. IIT Goa has listed Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electrical Engineering (EE) for admissions under the scheme.

The CSE PhD programme covers research areas including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Algorithms and Data Structures, Algorithms and Game Theory, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, Cyber Physical Systems, Data Science, Hardware Architecture, Hardware Security, Microelectronics and VLSI, Natural Language Processing, Theoretical Computer Science and VLSI Design. The part-time CSE programme focuses on areas such as AI and ML, Algorithms and Game Theory, and Cyber Physical Systems.

In Electrical Engineering, the research areas include Communication and Signal Processing, covering 5G and beyond communication systems, signal processing and optimisation, image processing and machine learning. The programme also includes VLSI and Micro engineering areas such as analog and mixed-signal circuit design, approximate computing, IoT, semiconductor device modeling, VLSI design and sensors.

For the full-time programme, candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering or Technology or an equivalent qualification must have secured at least 60% marks or a CPI of 6/10. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement is 55% marks or a CPI of 5.5/10.

Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology require at least 70% marks or a CPI of 7/10, while the requirement for SC/ST candidates is 65% marks or a CPI of 6.5/10. A Master's degree in Science, Arts or Social Sciences with the prescribed marks is also among the qualifying routes.

Applicants with B.E., B.Tech, MCA, M.Sc. or equivalent relevant qualifications must additionally satisfy the prescribed requirement through a valid GATE score, an eligible IIT B.Tech/Dual Degree qualification, or at least two years of relevant professional experience. Candidates with an M.Tech or M.E. qualification are exempt from the GATE requirement.

For part-time PhD admissions, candidates are required to meet separate academic and professional experience conditions. Applicants with a Master's degree in Science, Engineering or Technology generally require at least 60% marks or CPI 6/10 along with two years of work experience, while candidates with a Bachelor's degree require the prescribed academic performance and four years of work experience.

The Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme provides financial support to researchers working in specified Electronics and IT areas. IIT Goa states that full-time PhD scholars under the scheme receive a fellowship of ₹38,750 per month in the first and second years and ₹43,750 per month from the third to fifth years. The scheme also provides research contingency support of ₹1.20 lakh per year, along with specified support for international conferences and visits to laboratories abroad.

Candidates must apply online through the respective application links for CSE or Electrical Engineering. IIT Goa screens applications based on the information submitted in the online form, and shortlisted candidates are subsequently invited for the prescribed written examination and/or interview. Candidates are advised to verify all academic and professional details before submission, as incorrect information can lead to cancellation of candidature or admission.
