The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has expanded its digital learning initiative by introducing new Artificial Intelligence courses through its SWAYAM Plus platform, aiming to make AI education widely accessible across India. The institute offers these courses as part of its larger "AI for All" initiative which aims to provide essential digital and technological skills to learners from different backgrounds.
The programmes enable beginners to learn about AI without needing any prior knowledge of coding or artificial intelligence, making them suitable for students and professionals and non-technical learners who want to understand AI concepts.
The university has introduced three new courses which include three separate programs that teach artificial intelligence base-knowledge to students who have different educational needs.
The engineering program provides basic knowledge about Python programming and machine learning and AI applications which use actual data from the real world to demonstrate practical uses of these technologies while the administrative program teaches professionals about AI applications for decision-making purposes that assist executives in their management duties.

The prompt engineering course, on the other hand, teaches users how to effectively interact with AI systems to generate accurate and meaningful outputs. The programmes focus on teaching students how to use their skills in actual work situations instead of spending time on traditional academic learning.
The SWAYAM Plus portal currently accepts registrations for these courses until the deadline which expires on May 10 2026. The courses charge minimal fees which enable all people to access the programs. This initiative marks the two-year anniversary of SWAYAM Plus which has expanded its course offerings to hundreds of programs in engineering IT and finance fields.
The launch demonstrates IIT Madras' dedication to making AI education available to all people while increasing digital literacy throughout the world. The institute provides flexible and affordable courses, which deliver industry-relevant content, to prepare learners for fast-changing technological advancements while supporting India's national effort to develop skills and foster innovation.
