PM Modi Forms Exam Reforms Task Force Led by Infosys Founder

The Centre constitutes a high-powered task force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to recommend technology-driven reforms for India's examination system, aiming to enhance transparency, security, and reliability.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, establishes a task force, which is a group of experts to be headed by the founder of Infosys and technology expert, Nandan Nilekani, that will come up with suggestions for the reforms in the examination system of India. The objective is to enhance transparency, security, reliability, and technology use in the examination system in future.

In his video address, the Prime Minister mentions that there have been certain steps taken by the government to protect the interests of the students. He adds that the people indulged in cheating and leaking papers are being subjected to legal proceedings against them. Fast-track courts have also been set up for handling these cases. The introduction of strict laws through new legislation is also being considered by the government.

It is anticipated that the new committee will focus on the structural and technological changes needed for updating India’s examination system. As stated by the Prime Minister, the recommendations made by the committee will be instrumental in reforming the process, so that upcoming examinations could take place without any issues in regard to their credibility.

The task force is made up of people who come from different areas such as technology, education, administration, national security, academics, and logistics. Apart from Nandan Nilekani, other people on the panel include the ex-chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) S. Somanath, ex-director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras V. Kamakoti, ex-secretary of education Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.

This comes against the backdrop of increasing demand for reforms after various scandals involving exams. By appointing Nilekani for this task, whose expertise lies in overseeing the digital infrastructure of India, especially through the Aadhaar project, it clearly shows that the government intends to use modern technology to solve the problems related to the exam process.

By setting up the task force, the Centre will work towards bringing back the public’s faith in the exam process by making sure that the future tests are run in a transparent, fair and technology-proof manner. The recommendations of this task force will play an important role in determining the next move in examination reforms in India.
