The State Bank of India or SBI has actually kicked off the recruitment hustle for 7,150 apprentice positions across the country, under the Apprentices Act 1961. The online application window started on May 19 2026 and eligible graduates are able to put in their applications by June 8, 2026, via SBI’s official careers portal. This recruitment process is happening with Advertisement No. CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07, so yes it’s all tied to that number.

Based on the official notification, the apprenticeship programme is planned to give hands on banking experience and professional schooling to young graduates, in a way that feels very practical. The chosen candidates will have to attend a one year apprenticeship programme at different SBI branches and offices spread across states and union territories. This initiative is meant to boost employability skills and also bring exposure to the day to day banking operations, customer service practices, and the broader financial systems, overall.

For people applying for these positions, it is necessary to have a graduation degree from a recognized university or institute, (not just any college). The applicants should be in the age band of 20 to 28 years as on April 1, 2026, this is a key point, please note. Age relaxation will be available for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms. The selection pathway usually starts with an online written examination, and then there will be a local language proficiency test connected to the state or region you applied for.

The online examination will check candidates across things like reasoning power, quantitative bent, English language skills, computer awareness, and overall financial awareness. Officials said that the exam will be conducted in multiple regional languages along with English and Hindi, not just one. Candidates who clear the online test will need to show they’re proficient in the local language of the state they apply in, too.

Selected apprentices will get a monthly stipend of ₹15,000 during the entire training period. But SBI clarified that the apprenticeship doesn’t ensure permanent employment with the bank once the programme ends. In any case, experts say the apprenticeship can still be a worthwhile, practical learning pathway for graduates who are gearing up for upcoming banking and financial sector careers.

The recruitment drive is kind of among the largest banking apprenticeship programme that was announced this year, and it is expected to pull in lakhs of applicants from all over the country, looking for entry-level banking exposure and training chances.
