SSC CGL 2026: 10,731 Vacancies, Check Posts With Most Seats

SSC releases 10,731 tentative vacancies for CGL 2026 across Group B and Group C posts. Inspector (Central Excise)  and Tax Assistant account for the highest number of vacancies, while final figures may change.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) releases the tentative vacancy details for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026, with a total of 10,731 posts available across various central government departments and ministries. The vacancy list, released on September 24, provides a post-wise and category-wise distribution of the available positions.

The vacancies span Group B Gazetted, Group B Non-Gazetted and Group C posts across Pay Levels 4 to 8. Of the total 10,731 vacancies, 4,412 are earmarked under the unreserved category, 1,715 for Scheduled Caste candidates, and 804 for Scheduled Tribe candidates, 2,772 for Other Backward Classes and 1,028 for Economically Weaker Sections.

Among the posts, Inspector (Central Excise) has the highest number of vacancies at 2,366. The post is followed by Tax Assistant, which accounts for 2,241 vacancies across the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

The vacancy list also includes Inspector of Income Tax with 595 posts and Assistant Section Officer (ASO) with 999 vacancies across multiple departments. Other positions include Auditor, Accountant, Office Superintendent, Executive Assistant, Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II.

At the higher pay level, the Commission lists 513 vacancies for Assistant Audit Officer under the Central Cadre. It also lists 504 vacancies each for Assistant Accounts Officer and Assistant Audit Officer under the State Cadre. These posts fall under Pay Level 8 and Group B Gazetted classification.

The latest vacancy figures also include horizontal reservations. The list mentions 373 vacancies for Ex-Servicemen and 464 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, covering different disability categories.

The SSC CGL Tier-I examination is scheduled to be conducted from September 30 to October 30, 2026, in computer-based test mode. Candidates are advised to follow the examination schedule and related instructions issued by the Commission.
