Tamil Nadu to Deploy Quantum Computers for Students, Startups

- Tamil Nadu signs LoI with XeedQ for quantum access
- Remote 4-qubit system for students & startups first
- Phase 2 may bring physical quantum computer to state
Tamil Nadu is all set to lead the way in providing students and startups with direct, hands, on quantum computing access through a government, supported initiative. The Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT Hub), a public, private partnership supported by the state government, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with XeedQ GmbH, a Germany deep, tech company, at Umagine TN 2026. This is one of the first programs in India that offers direct access to real quantum hardware, thereby moving away from the theoretical mode of learning towards practical experimentation.
Initially, students and startups throughout the state will enjoy remote access to a four, qubit quantum computer developed by XeedQ. This provides an opportunity to the real, world experiments, checking out algorithms, and getting familiar with the actual quantum workflows such as structured onboarding, guided sessions, and capacity, building at iTNT Hub on the Anna University campus. XeedQ will offer the hardware, remote access, technical expertise, and learning support.

The second phase imagines a scenario where a real quantum computer is housed within the innovation ecosystem of Tamil Nadu, thus possibly becoming the first state in India to have one. Through this initiative, the authorities intend to nurture trust, skills, and inquisitiveness in quantum technologies from the very beginning.
Gopalakrishnan Balasubramanian, founder and CEO of XeedQ, remarked: Quantum computing ought not to be confined to only labs or theory. By providing students and startups with direct access to actual quantum hardware, Tamil Nadu is instilling confidence, capability, and curiosity at the correct stage. This is a programme of learning by doing, and that is the way to create meaningful quantum ecosystems.
The pilot will be evaluated together by iTNT Hub and XeedQ on the basis of usage, learning outcomes, and ecosystem impact, and the resulting plan might be extended. This move is in line with the overall strategy of Tamil Nadu to perform a leading role in deep, tech talent and emerging technologies.
