IIM Lucknow Launches Family Business MBA for July 2027

IIM Lucknow launches a two-year MBA in Family Business, with the first batch beginning in July 2027. The programme targets family enterprise owners and next-generation leaders, combining management education with succession and growth planning.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow launches a specialised Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme in Family Business to prepare business owners and the next generation of family enterprise leaders for strategic management, succession planning and long-term growth. The first batch is scheduled to commence in July 2027.

The two-year programme is designed for individuals who actively manage or intend to lead family-run enterprises. It combines core management education with practical learning focused on the challenges of sustaining family businesses, professionalising operations and identifying new growth opportunities.

The MBA in Family Business follows an on-campus modular format, with participants attending classes at the institute’s Noida campus for approximately seven days each month. The programme spans six trimesters and allows participants to remain involved in their businesses while pursuing management education.

A key feature is the integration of six Family Business Labs across the programme. These labs progressively address enterprise assessment, business vision and strategy, governance, succession planning, leadership transitions, innovation and venture investing.

Participants also work towards a five-to-ten-year Business Transformation and Growth Plan for their own enterprises. The programme incorporates case-based learning, practical projects, mentoring and opportunities for global exposure. Selected activities may also involve family members in discussions on governance and succession.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent professional qualification, such as CA, CS or ICWA, from a recognised institution. Candidates are required to meet the prescribed academic criteria, including a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in Class 10, Class 12 and undergraduate studies.

Applicants must also be owners or next-generation members of a family business or enterprise with an annual turnover or business investment of at least ₹20 crore. A valid GMAT or GRE score, or the IIM Lucknow entrance examination score, is required.

The selection process includes shortlisting and a personal interview to assess candidates’ involvement in their family enterprises, leadership objectives and ability to apply the programme’s learning.

The programme fee is ₹25 lakh, excluding additional charges and the optional global immersion component. Candidates should consult the institute’s official admission portal for the detailed fee structure, application requirements and updated admission schedule.

The programme aims to help family enterprises strengthen governance, navigate generational transitions, adopt new technologies and develop sustainable growth strategies.
