Rajasthan University to admit PhD students Without Test

  • University of Rajasthan to admit PhD scholars without written entrance test requirement now.
  • Selection will be based on interviews and national eligibility exams like UGC NET GATE scores.
  • Decision aims to simplify admission process reduce delays and align with updated UGC guidelines effectively.

The University of Rajasthan has implemented a major transformation in its PhD admission procedure by eliminating the mandatory requirement of a written entrance examination.

The university will now select candidates through their interview results and their scores from national eligibility tests which include UGC-NET and CSIR-NET/JRF and GATE and CEED.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations of 2023 permit this change which helps research candidates to complete their admission process with greater efficiency.

Under the revised system, only candidates who have already qualified for these national-level tests will be eligible to apply for PhD programmes.

The university plans to select candidates for interviews by choosing approximately twice the number of applicants who will compete for available seats in the selection process.

Departments across the university are currently assessing the number of vacant PhD seats, which are expected to exceed several hundred across disciplines.

The initiative is designed to solve the delays which occurred during earlier admission processes because those delays impacted students' ability to study and participate in research activities.

The university intends to streamline its admission process by removing the written test requirement which will help them complete their admission process in a faster time frame.

The selected candidates will start their research work in the upcoming academic session because authorities expect to finalize the admissions process by mid-2026.

The doctoral admission process requires better transparency and flexible admission methods which should follow national standards. The university uses interview results together with specific eligibility tests to identify qualified candidates who will help streamline the PhD admission process.
