Chhattisgarh Raises PG Medical and Dental Student Stipends

Chhattisgarh revises monthly stipends for postgraduate medical and dental students from October 1, 2026. PG students receive up to Rs 93,996 per month under the new structure, following a government approval.

The Chhattisgarh government approves an increase in the monthly stipends of postgraduate medical and dental students enrolled in government medical and dental colleges across the state. The revised stipend structure comes into effect from October 1, 2026, according to a government notice issued on September 26.

Under the revised structure, first-year postgraduate medical students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 85,050, compared with the existing Rs 67,500. For second-year students, the stipend increases from Rs 71,450 to Rs 90,027. Third-year postgraduate medical students receive Rs 93,996 per month, up from Rs 74,600 earlier.

The revised rates also cover postgraduate dental students. First-year dental students receive Rs 85,050 per month, compared with Rs 53,500 previously. The stipend for second-year students rises from Rs 56,700 to Rs 90,027, while third-year students receive Rs 93,996 instead of the earlier Rs 59,200.

The increase represents an approximately 26 per cent rise in the stipend for postgraduate medical students across all three years. For postgraduate dental students, the revised rates represent an increase of nearly 59 per cent compared with the earlier structure.

The decision follows a proposal from the Directorate of Medical Education, Chhattisgarh. The revised structure applies to eligible postgraduate medical and dental residents from the effective date specified in the government order.

The stipend revision also comes amid an ongoing agitation by junior doctors in the state over various demands. The revised compensation addresses one of the issues raised during the agitation, although reports indicate that the wider protest continues over other pending demands.

With the new structure, postgraduate residents in government medical and dental institutions receive higher monthly financial support during their training. The revised rates are applicable from October 1, 2026.
