Delhi Offers Free DTC Travel for NEET Re-Exam Students

The Delhi government has announced free travel in all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses for candidates appearing in the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21. Students can avail the facility by presenting their valid NEET admit cards while travelling to examination centres across the national capital.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the initiative is aimed at ensuring hassle-free travel for students on an important examination day and reducing transportation-related stress. The move comes amid growing concerns regarding logistical difficulties faced by candidates after the original NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 was cancelled following the alleged paper leak controversy.

The decision aligns with similar measures announced by several other states, including Bihar, Punjab, and Haryana, which have also introduced free bus travel facilities for NEET re-exam candidates. Haryana has extended free travel in Haryana Roadways buses on June 20 and 21, while Bihar has announced complimentary transportation through state-run bus services for students appearing in the examination.

Authorities across the country are increasing logistical and security preparations ahead of the re-examination. Reports indicate that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented enhanced security protocols and structural reforms to ensure the integrity and smooth conduct of the examination. The government is also considering deploying Indian Air Force aircraft for secure transportation of question papers to prevent any operational lapses.

Education authorities and state governments have been urged to prioritize candidate welfare amid ongoing summer heat conditions. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently requested states and local administrations to ensure adequate transportation, drinking water, shaded waiting areas, and proper infrastructure at examination centres to support students appearing for the re-test.

The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is one of the largest national entrance tests in India and is being conducted under heightened scrutiny following the paper leak allegations. Analysts believe that support measures such as free public transportation can help reduce financial and logistical burdens on students while improving accessibility during large-scale competitive examinations.
