IIT Kharagpur Opens 2026 Admissions for Law, Policy

  • IIT Kharagpur opens admissions for specialised law and public policy programmes for the 2026 academic year.
  • Programmes include LLB, LLM, and public policy degrees, blending legal education, governance and interdisciplinary training.
  • Admissions aim to prepare professionals for careers in law, policymaking, governance, regulation, and public service.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has begun the online application process for its specialised law and public policy programmes for the 2026 academic year, inviting aspiring students to apply for multiple graduate-level courses.

Prospective candidates can now submit their applications through the official IIT Kharagpur admissions portal for programmes including Honours in Intellectual Property Law (LLB), LLM, and the Master’s in Public Policy, Law and Governance (MPPLG).

The (LLB) Honours in Intellectual Property Law programme establishes its study of legal education by emphasising the growing value of intellectual property rights in current innovation-based environments.

The LLM programme provides advanced legal education, while the MPPLG program delivers a two-year full-time postgraduate degree that combines public policy and legal studies to train students for careers in governance, policy analysis, and public administration.

The admissions process is currently open to students who come from various educational backgrounds because they need to demonstrate their eligibility requirements before applying by February 20 2026.

The institute will evaluate applications through their academic records and entrance test results, along with additional criteria which the institute has established. The official IIT Kharagpur website provides online access for users to complete registration and upload their necessary documents.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has decided to launch law programs and public policy programs because technical institutes now seek to expand their academic programs beyond their main engineering and technology fields.

The interdisciplinary programs train students to understand legal principles and policy development and governance problems, which serve the changing job market needs of public and private sector organisations.

Competition for quality law and public policy education has grown significantly, which is attracting students who have the ambition to gain complete and rigorous academic training in these important spheres.
