IIM Indore to Study IPL Star’s ‘Vaibhav Model’ Success

The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) is set to undertake a unique academic study centred on teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, following his extraordinary performance in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The initiative is being described as one of the first multidisciplinary academic case studies in India to examine the journey of a young sporting prodigy and understand the factors that contribute to exceptional success at an early age.

Vaibhav, who represented the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, emerged as one of the tournament’s most remarkable performers. The 15-year-old amassed 776 runs in 16 innings, maintaining an average of 48.50 and an impressive strike rate of 237.30. During the season, he struck 72 sixes, surpassing a long-standing IPL record and earning multiple accolades, including the Orange Cap, Emerging Player of the Season, and Super Striker of the Season awards. His achievements have attracted widespread attention from both the sporting and academic communities.

According to IIM Indore Director Himanshu Rai, the proposed study will extend beyond cricket statistics and focus on understanding the broader elements that shape extraordinary talent. Researchers from fields such as management, psychology, and sports science will analyse the social, familial, institutional, and psychological factors that contributed to Vaibhav’s rapid rise. The study aims to identify how talent is nurtured, sustained, and transformed into long-term excellence.

A significant aspect of the research will involve examining the role of parents, coaches, mentors, support systems, personal discipline, and environmental influences in the development of young achievers. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of sports as a valuable subject for academic research and leadership studies.
