Ladakh LG Launches Yuva Internship Program for 2,000 Youth

Ladakh launches the LG Yuva Internship Programme for 2,000 young people, offering three-month placements across 25 government departments, a ₹5,000 monthly honorarium and practical exposure to governance.

Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, announced the LG Yuva Internship Programme, which aims to formalise the involvement of youth in governance and give youth experience in public administration. This programme will engage 2,000 youth in the 25 departments of the Union Territory Administration for an internship of three months.

The project will begin on September 17, 2026, after the successful completion of the launch ceremony and the orientation program, which took place in Ladakh. Youth from all parts of the Union Territory, including Kargil, Changthang, Sham, Nubra, Drass, and Zanskar, joined the orientation in online mode. This program gives participants a chance to work in government departments and learn how public organisations work.

In the course of the programme, selected interns are paid an honorarium of ₹5,000 each month for the period of three months that they spend in the internship. There is also the possibility for the internship of the highest performing individuals to be extended for three more months on account of their performance.

It should be noted that the internship programme is designed to give practical experience in governance and public policy making. The interns will have an opportunity to work with various departments and learn about the implementation of government policies, programs, and development projects. The government administration hopes to benefit from the innovative ideas of the interns in solving local development problems.

This program will be facilitated through the ‘Zhabstok Ladakh’ Youth Internship Portal that was introduced in the month of August and became the first official internship portal for the Union Territory. The portal will help aspiring interns apply for internships in 25 different departments through one window only. The initial period of application was from August 22 to September 5, while document verification was done from September 6 to 14.

The programme is also oriented towards creating connections between youth and public administration and community development. It is expected that interns will develop practical insight into governance issues and provide practical solutions to problems on the ground.

The introduction of the LG Yuva Internship Programme by the Ladakh Administration provides a formal framework for youth to get an insight into the government sector while engaging in developmental work in the Union Territory.
