Synopsis: Punjab launches the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for the 2026–27 academic session, enabling eligible Scheduled Caste students to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal for higher education assistance.

The Punjab government has launched the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students for the 2026–27 academic sessions, sort of reaffirming its commitment to improving access to higher education for students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities. Applications are being accepted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) from July 1, 2026,, so eligible students can try to get financial assistance for pursuing post-secondary education .

Announcing the initiative, Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur, urged eligible students to complete their applications before the prescribed deadline so they can benefit from the scheme, before time runs out so to speak. She said, financial constraints shouldn’t turn into a hurdle for higher education, and she encouraged students across the state to take up the scholarship programme, because it can actually help.

The Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme is made for Scheduled Caste students who are studying in recognised post-secondary programmes, and this can include higher secondary education as well as undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, technical, diploma and even vocational courses. The money support generally covers eligible academic expenses, so that students can keep going with their studies, without taking on an undue financial burden, that kind of pressure.

Students will be able to submit their requests via the National Scholarship Portal until November 15, 2026. After that, the institutions will handle the checking and fix any deficiencies by November 30. Then, the nodal officers, who are assigned for the job, are expected to finish the last verification step by December 15, 2026.

The Punjab government has also told district officials to organize awareness campaigns right at the village level, so that eligible students and their families are properly informed about the scholarship scheme. In a way, these outreach initiatives are meant to improve general awareness, boost participation, and make sure the most deserving beneficiaries can reach financial support without any real hassle.

The scholarship programme kind of lines up with the state’s bigger push to promote educational equity, and social inclusion too. By bringing down the financial weight that comes with higher education, this initiative is meant to boost enrolment, to minimise dropout rates, and to open more educational chances for Scheduled Caste students who are going for advanced studies.

The launch of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme sort of shows Punjab’s ongoing priority toward widening educational access with targeted welfare moves. As further studies become more and more important for job prospects and socio economic progress, this programme is likely to back thousands of learners in reaching their academic goals , and in the same time, it helps build a more open and fair education system.
