Railway Board approves 5,165 NTPC vacancies for 2026, including 3,477 graduate and 1,688 undergraduate posts, with final vacancy details due from zonal railways before the recruitment notification.
These 5,165 vacancies have been approved by the Railway Board for the coming RRB NTPC recruitment of 2026. These vacancies include both graduate level and undergraduate level posts in different Zonal Railways and Production Units. This development gives some insight into the scope of the coming recruitment process, despite the fact that the actual CEN is not released yet.
Among the total approved vacancies, 3,477 are for the graduate category whereas 1,688 are for the undergraduate category. Graduates constitute the greater portion of the recruitment drive. Among the graduate vacancies, the highest number of approved vacancies is for the post of Goods Train Manager, with 2,750 posts available. There are also other graduate vacancies, namely Chief Commercial-cum-Ticket Supervisor, Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist and Senior Clerk-cum-Typist.

These positions include Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Trains Clerk. The above numbers have been finalized as per the requirements provided by the concerned authority.
The vacancy sanction comes after evaluating the needs that have been forwarded to the Railway Board by the Zonal Railways and Production Units through the HRMS Indent Management module. The Railway Board instructs the respective units to send their final indents within the sanctioned number of vacancies and under the reservation criteria.
As per the recent update, the final details of the vacancy would be sent in by Zonal Railways from 7th September to 26th September, 2026. Centralised Employment Notification would be released post completion of the final indent process. Hence, applicants must wait for the official CEN in order to get all the required information about eligibility criteria, application procedure, exam pattern and so forth.

This approval by the Railway Board informs those who are planning to appear for the Government recruitment exam about the chances available in the coming NTPC cycle. Nevertheless, the approved number should not be considered the recruitment notification yet, as the CEN has not been issued officially. Station Master recruitment at the pay level of 6 would be intimated separately, and hence there may be further details in the final recruitment notification.
For aspirants looking to pursue careers in the Indian railways but in non-technical positions, the recruitment drive of RRB NTPC is still an excellent employment opportunity since the recruitment has already been approved for 5,165 posts, and aspirants should now begin preparations for the same.
