CA Final Exams Reduced to 2 Attempts a Year, ICAI Says

  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of India reduces CA Final exams to two attempts annually from May 2026 onwards.
  • Exams will now be conducted only in May and November, removing earlier January attempt cycle.
  • Change aims to improve preparation time, reduce stress, and enhance overall student performance outcomes.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has announced a significant change to the CA Final examination schedule which will reduce examination attempts to two per year starting from May 2026.

The revised system will now conduct exams in May and November only instead of the previous three-attempt schedule which included a January testing period.

The examination process is being restructured to create a more organized system which assists candidates who prepare for India’s most difficult professional qualification examination.

The decision follows student and stakeholder feedback which showed that students had concerns about exam frequency. The system of three annual attempts gave students more chances to take exams but it forced them to study continuously without enough time to review material and understand concepts.

The ICAI Institute has decided to return to its previous examination schedule because it believes that two yearly examination dates will provide students with better preparation time which will help them achieve higher success rates while experiencing less academic pressure.

The removal of the January cycle will improve preparation strategies because students will be able to study according to their longer study periods. The examination schedule becomes easier to manage for educational institutions and coaching facilities because of this development.

Students will need to create their test schedules more precisely because the new system will provide them with fewer testing opportunities throughout the year.

The updated schedule shows how ICAI tries to maintain educational standards while providing students with flexible learning options.

The institute wants to improve learning results through its two annual attempt restriction while keeping CA profession standards and developing a better test system for future chartered accountants.
