The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur director Suman Chakraborty proposed new measures to reduce student distress which will include offering greater number of paid internships. The initiative responds to the rising pressure which now affects students because they have to manage academic requirements and training programs while building their resumes through multiple internship experiences.

The director confirmed that internships serve as essential tools for students to develop skills which enhance their job prospects, but students experience severe stress because they must secure internships.

The institute will develop a balanced ecosystem which allows students to find valuable internships without experiencing excessive pressure. The administration will use stipends to decrease financial burdens on students while directing their attention towards educational activities instead of fighting for unpaid internships with low value.
