Finding the Right Path for an Internationally Certified Career

The Western Culture has been influencing the Indian culture in various ways and has taken the country by storm. Annually, close to 200000 students from India fly abroad to pursue higher education. 103,260 students travel to the U.S. alone. The various cities of the United States have always attracted Indian talent owing to the dynamic exposure and difference in culture.

Finding common grounds for academics, has enabled many students to chase their dreams of achieving Western certified degrees which hold a major importance in the country's corporate and employment sector. A study done by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) estimated that the hundreds of thousands of Indian students now studying abroad cost India as much as $17 billion a year in lost revenue.

The reality that is currently reckoned with by every Indian who wants to go abroad is that every student who wishes to visit abroad oftentimes confronts the criteria for which an international university has to give them admission. It ranges from study options to courses and many other things. In such scenarios, tests for going abroad come in play that refines the admission process for the many international universities and to the students in knowing their capabilities abroad. There are many tests that are administered in understanding one's abilities and profile to the requirements of abroad in education. Some of them are:

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

This is designed to measure the overall proficiency in English. It is a prerequisite for those who wish to study or work where English is the language of communication. It conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. The test is simultaneously conducted by British Council, IDP Australia and Cambridge ESOL.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT, pronounced G-mat) is a Computer-Adaptive standardized test in mathematics and the English language for measuring aptitude to succeed academically in graduate business studies. Business schools commonly use the test as one of many selection criteria for admission into graduate business administration programs (e.g. MBA, Master of Accountancy, etc.) principally in the United States, but also in other English-speaking countries

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)

A graduate or business degree can give you a big career advantage. An important step toward achieving that goal and the path to thousands of graduate and business programs all over the world is to take the GRE General Test. Graduate programs and business schools use GRE scores to evaluate your readiness for graduate level work. The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills that are not related to any specific field of study.

TOFEL (Test of English as a foreign language)

The Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL evaluates the ability of an individual to use and understand English in an academic setting. It sometimes is an admission requirement for non-native English speakers at many English-speaking colleges and universities. Additionally, institutions such as government agencies, licensing bodies, businesses, or scholarship programs may require this test. A TOEFL score is valid for two years and then will no longer be officially reported since a candidate's language proficiency could have significantly changed since the date of the test. Colleges and universities usually consider only the most recent TOEFL score.

The current state of economy and the demands in pursuing education overseas requires students to start early and lay a rigid foundation to their educational ambitions. Every Indian student who wants to go abroad needs to be aware of their abilities if they could be shortlisted by International Universities, and following this vision they must apply to various such tests in going abroad to test the waters and determine their suitability of the course and check with the content if it suits their profile of the career choices they make.
