Young generation needs to choose a career, gain competencies required for it, make decisions, set goals and then take an action. The process of a Career choice is a multi-step one. It's about you! What are your unique gifts and talents? What are you passionate about? What type of contribution you want to put on this earth to make? And it's about the World! Where do your strengths, gifts, and talents match with need of the world? Your responses to these and other questions contain important clues. Having said so you can narrow down to career option most suited to you by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Identify Your Interests, Personality Traits, Work Values, Talent and Skills

The first step is to find potential careers to complete a self-assessment. What's really important to you? What do you like to do? What are your interests and abilities? How well your thought, emotion, and behaviour can go along with your career choices? Are you looking to develop new skills for your career? One of the key elements in career choice is Values. Values are the emotional basis of all that one does. In the process of having a satisfying career, one needs to have a high connection between one's personal values and the work they will be doing. In order to begin your career choice you need to sort out your values and write them down as clearly and precisely as you can.

After you know your interest, likes, dislikes and what you love doing it's also important to know whether you have enough skills and talent to complete the task given to you. It's very essential here to recognize the difference between skill and talent. A skill is your ability to do something whereas a talent is an ability that you've been born with or something that comes naturally to you. You may be skilled at something and still not find it interesting. It would help you know whether you are more apt to enjoy doing what you do well naturally or what you have been taught to do. With the support of all these you can list down careers which suit you most in initial stages.

Step 2: Explore Career Options & Evaluate Your Choices

With hundreds of career options available, it can seem daunting to opt for a particular career option. So, it is important to discover and assess career options. Once you have a career choice narrowed down, you need to know more about greatest career area of interest and research the specifics of this career. At this point, you need to find out what an engineer, nurse, banker, welder, or farmer really does? How much will you be paid in this career? The best way to find these answers is by surfing on net and asking people who know. You might get varied opinion by different people but this will surely help you get basic information about career choices you are interested in and form an initial opinion.

Step 3: Make a Decision

Deciding on a particular course or stream is a continual process till you get the clear picture of your skills meeting the requirement of your future ambition. A bit of more information on your dream career will help you close in to career that is most aptly suited to you. Once you finalize a career option, you can summarize the succession of steps required to achieve your career goals. Note down all details such as entrance exams, eligibility criteria, education required, college or school that offers this program, time frame involved and so on. Follow the admission process to build a career based on your passion, skills and interest.
