Industry Engagement : Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering:
Transforming Educational Excellence's
India has become a podium of Interdisciplinary Research and Education in Science and Engineering. With 'Make in India' introduced by Government of India, every institute and organization is adopting research and working hard towards a better India. Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) is one among many such institutes but with a difference. The difference being the zeal with which the institute involves the students in research along with regular academic curriculum. Established in 2007 with an objective of promoting research oriented advanced courses in the field of technology and engineering. The institute has five centers of excellence namely Bosch Rexroth Centre of Competence, Siemens Centre of Excellence, Infosys Campus Connect, Nano Science & Technology Research Centre and Civil - CITS Centre. " Our mission is to establish world class educational institutions, in their own domains, which shall be Centers of Excellence in their stated and implied sense," says Rajesh Chouta, President, Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering.
Bosch Rexroth has core competencies in Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechatronics and electric drives and controls. Rs. 5.4 crores has been invested by Bosch and $ 79 million by Siemens to set up Centre of Excellence for digital design, digital validation and digital manufacturing. Nano Science & Technology Research Centre is a multidisciplinary in nature involving departments of physics, chemistry, electronics & communication and mechanical engineering for research & development in both conventional and nano-materials, thin films and device applications. Infosys Campus Connect provides training on foundation courses and soft skills at workshops conducted for the faculty and students. CAFET-INNOVA Technical Society (CITS) is an International non-profit organization committed to contribute original research articles to encourage the research work carried out by the international researchers and scientists in the field of Earth Sciences, Biological Sciences and Engineering field with various disciplines. In total the institute is currently involved in projects worth Rs. 2.5 Crores. The institute also has two Google ambassadors to connect them with a global platform and conducts various activities under Google. There are seven student funded projects being carried out at the institute, one of them is an all terrain vehicle designed by the students and approved by SAE Baja.
The institute offers B.E and M.Tech courses in Mechanical, Civil, Information Science, VLSI & Embedded Systems, Nano Technology, Machine Design, Aeronautical, Mechatronics, Electronics & Communication, and Computer Science & Engineering along with Post graduation in Management studies on the academic front. The curriculum is revised every five years as an active initiative to bridge the gap between the industry developments and the stagnant curricula. The institute also boasts of impressive faculty strength of 204 against student strength of 3300; with 28 faculty members hold Doctorate degrees. These faculty members having expertise in their fields are serving the institute with their long term experience in academics. Chouta pinpoints that it is the faculty member's efforts which are instrumental in making the students perform well and count for its consecutive cent percent results every year in B.E and 97 percent in MBA as per records. They are professionally updated through conferences and seminars and also offered sponsored visits to international conferences to inculcate improved teaching and learning skills in them. The institute also encourages them to write for reputed publications and journals. MITE looks forward to collaborate with international university for faculty development programs. Nevertheless, the institute has a strong placement cell which takes care of the placement drives in the campus. The cell provides soft skill and communication skills as pre-placement training program and believes in all round development of the students and prepares the students for the same. Prominent recruiters such as Infosys, Tech Mahindra, SPAN iNFOTECH, Honey Well, IBM and HP visit the campus and recruit a large number of students every year offering average CTC of Rs. 4.5 Lakhs. The highest CTC offered at the campus was of Rs. 9.6 Lakhs.
The institute is well equipped with various infrastructural facilities which include computer laboratories, spacious learning rooms, Smart Board- Touch screen and LCD projector. MITE is a complete residential campus offering the best stay to the inmates with an environment made best according to a student's requirements. By February 2016, the institute will set up an incubation centre to guide students who could come up with new products. "We visualize bringing up entrepreneurs who are the makers and the doers; they need to be guided and motivated. We intend to nurture future entrepreneurs through the incubation center," adds Chouta. MITE maintains strong Alumni relations. Every year Alumni meets are organized twice where alumni members guide the junior batches and address the students with their personal and industrial experiences. "We are contributing to the country's growth of higher education and believe in doing more in the coming years," concludes Chouta.
Rajesh Chouta, President
Rajesh Chouta is a man with a vision. He is an Electronics and Communications Engineering Graduate and has worked for various organizations and institutes. The ever growing demand for Professional Engineering education to meet the escalating demands made Chouta think about establishing quality Educational Institutions. This resulted in the foundation of Rajalaxmi Educaion Trust and under its wing functions Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering at Mijar.
