A Merger of Industry and Academia

Hyderabad Business School (HBS) is a constituent of 1980 founded GITAM University. The successful saga of GITAM started with the establishment of a College of Engineering in 1980 by offering few undergraduate engineering programs. Even though, HBS is a recent addition to the university, in a very short span of time, the school has built an excellent faculty pool of experience and a rich intellectual capital base, state of the art infrastructure, technology - savvy campus along with commitment towards quality. The emphasis of the institute has been to prepare business leaders for the society and develop sound academia-industry collaboration.

HBS offers a Two Year Full Time MBA Program, which is aimed at transforming young graduates into successful and effective business leaders. The prime focus of the program is to prepare professionals who would take up leadership positions in organizations across industry, government organizations and NGOs. The program has been designed to equip youngsters with the basic set of knowledge, skills and aptitude that would be required of them in corporate/non-corporate organizations. Depth of understanding, analytical rigor, independence of thought, commitment, cooperation, competition, integrity and innovation are the core values instilled in each individual who graduate from the two year program. All of this is achieved through a well-crafted set of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, delivered by a mix of experts from academia and industry.

To facilitate this mission, the management has recruited many industry-experienced individuals as faculty along with the existing qualified academicians. With this effort, students are able to have a more practical understanding of the subjects and can provide better solutions to the problems. More than 25 percent of their faculties have more than 15 years of industry expertise. Apart from that, the institute ensures that 90 percent of the remaining faculty members have PhD as a minimum qualification. The faculties not only engaged in the mentoring of students but also promote research activities. At present, HBS has seven Centers of Excellences for exclusive thrust on research, training programs and other services to executives, and researchers, students and teachers of Management in the respective areas.

By promoting holistic development and involvement of industry experts along with the existing academicians, Hyderabad Business School hopes to keep churning out more students who can start working from the day one.
