Located in Chennai, Sathyabama University is a strong advocate of promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary research initiatives that involve faculty and students from across campus. Formerly known as Sathyabama Engineering College, which was established in the year 1988 under JEPPIAAR Educational Trust to promote technical education in the state of Tamil Nadu, Sathyabama University was started with the objective of providing higher education, high -quality teaching and promoting research. Today, the university has emerged as a leading university in the country and has achieved excellence in higher education to the international standards through Post Graduate Studies, Research, Technology Incubation, Product Innovation and Science and Technology.
"We have established an International Research Centre and Research and Development Centre to translate innovations into product and technology development. With these world-class research facilities, we undertake funded Research and Development projects in collaboration with Research organizations at National and International level," says Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, Director, Sathyabama University. To study about specific subjects like Remote Sensing, Nanotechnology, Ocean Research, Space Technology, Quality Assurance and Non-Destructive Evaluation, Waste Management, Animal Research and many more, Sathyabama University has 13 Research Centres. "Here, we encourage In-house research and consultancy projects to solve the crucial needs that arise for the Industry and research organizations," adds Dr. Mariazeena.
As a university that highly focuses on research activities, curriculum of Sathyabama University is very current and updated. The university regularly introduce new course into the curriculum based on the market requirements. "Our curriculum is unique and it offers a core subject and allows flexibility to students to choose from a range of electives. Students can select subjects of their preference and pursue with passion," says Dr. Mariazeena. Sathyabama University follows Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) where the students have a choice to choose from the prescribed courses. Students can learn at their own pace and the entire assessment is graded based on a credit system. "CBCS allows easy mobility of students to various educational institutions spread across the world along with the facility of transfer of credits earned by students," opines Dr. Mariazeena.
While, the university has associations with renowned Universities and Institutes across the country and world, regular Interactions with experts in the industry, research and academia help them in devising the best curriculum that equip students with required technical and soft skills and make them employable. With more than 100 bilateral and mutually beneficial tie-ups with Universities, Research organizations and Industries, Sathyabama University takes all possible steps to make the students employable and Industry ready. Around 93 percent of our students are placed through campus interviews, as they are trained and well equipped to meet industry expectations," states Dr. Mariazeena. In recognition of her services, she has been selected as one of the Top 12 women under the Government of India initiative, "Women Transforming India" organized by NITI Aayog in association with UN in India. Recently, she has been honoured by our Honourable President for being one among the 100 impactful women of India as she worked single-mindedly for the cause of the development of women and children.
