Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Pratishthan's College of Engineering: To Inspire the Young Minds towards Lifelong Learning
India is one among the few developing countries, which have realized the potential of Telecom and IT in the process of economic growth. The industry, however, faces a talent crunch despite the availability of millions of engineering graduates in these fields. Although, the country has many engineering colleges that produce students with desired technical skills, Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil Pratishthan's College of Engineering (PVPPCOE) is an island of excellence for recruiters when it comes to availability of engineers who are capable of dealing the challenges of IT and Telecom Industry. Located in Mumbai, the college conducts professional programs leading to B.E. Degree in the disciplines of Electronic, Computers, Electronic & Telecommunication and Information Technology, which are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The college has started M.E. Degree Program in the disciplines of Computers and Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering.PVPPCOE strives to build confidence among the students by providing knowledge that is differentiated to meet the industry's changing needs over time.
Our college strives to be an institute in which students' value learning by being active seekers, users and creators of knowledge. Here, the students are offered differentiated pathways to meet their individual needs and aspirations to celebrate success in all endeavours, including individual academic achievements, says Sr. Adv. Appasaheb S. Desai, General Secretary, PVPPCOE. The college frequently conducts workshops, STTPs, FDPs by peers from industry and research scholars from IIT and other institutes. The mentorship program has been implemented successfully with a view to provide a mechanism to connect with the real world. In essence, the mentors recognize all aspects of human issues that are otherwise not addressed by the curriculum. In addition to the training provided, we also try to prepare our students to achieve core competence and a complete technical knowledge in their streams, which will enable them to work in their core areas, adds Sr. Adv. Appasaheb S. Desai.
The college strives to build confidence among the students by providing knowledge that is differentiated to meet the industry's changing needs over time. The lesson plan and subject plan are given to the students at the commencement of the term, which provides full information and guidance on the aims and structure of their subject in the curriculum, the content, associated workload and the methods of assessments. We conduct an Intercollegiate Technical Festival OSMOSIS under EESA, which gives the students the platform to apply engineering concepts and principles to practical use. We also have an affiliation with professional society like ISTE, says Dr. Alam N. Shaikh, Principal, PVPPCOE.
To bring out the best in the students, the college builds a community in which staff, students and parents work in partnership. Our staffs build connections and synergy between and across campuses, resulting in best practice which is then readily shared. We have also initiated talks with BITS, Dubai, and Dubai Technical Universities for International Student Exchange Program, says Dr. Alam. Students are also given opportunities to visit Dubai to get an in-depth knowledge of universities that are located outside India. We offer our students a practical exposure so that they get a reality based knowledge that will help them to act critically and wisely, adds Dr. Alam. This apt moulding makes the students intellectually competent skilled workers.
Along with the training, the management gives all technical support required for the students and the alumni of PVPPCOE for a start-up business. The Entrepreneur Development Cell is very active wherein experts come and give guidelines to students frequently. Julia Computing is one of the best epitomes of successful start-ups from PVPPCOE. Though, we like to create more job providers, sometimes students would not be that efficient in entrepreneurship. For such students, we offer constant guidance and mentoring to create confidence about the skills in them, opines Sr. Adv. Appasaheb S. Desai.
The college ensures that students are able to think freely, considering engineering as a science where creative thinking and fresh ideas play a significant role. The counselling and parent-teacher meeting is conducted within the college in order to make a lasting bond between the stakeholders and to increase the likelihood of academic success for the PVPPCOE students. We will continue to provide our students with the best facilities to enhance and give the best to the stakeholders. Along with it, we will also ensure that PVPPCOE stands as an encouraging work environment to its faculties, concludes Sr. Adv. Appasaheb S. Desai.
