Research and Innovation: SAL Institute of Technology and Engineering Research
Relevance of research is usually a topic questioned under rather peculiar circumstances. What is the relevance of a Research? Why is it important? What will be its outcome? Such are questions that generally originate that put a researcher in skepticism about their methods. But having shed all inhibitions and giving their utmost support, SAL Institute of Technology pushes its students and their research a notch higher gains them 100 percent placements every year. The University has witnessed 100 percent placements as almost every registered student is placed by the end of the seventh semester. The employment rate of students across domains like Electronics and Communications is 100 percent. It has also received packages as high as over Rs. 14 lakhs per annum in fields like Mechanical. The question that arises is how does the University do so?
The probable answer is, as said by Rupesh Vasani, principal of SAL Institute of Engineering and Technology; "the patents approved and guest-lectures along with staff teaching help the zeal of research in students that eventually produce company proficient engineers and big minded entrepreneurs". The university surpasses all its set milestones every year in quest to accomplish new ones. The institute's name is one to reckon with as it is one among the most sought after names of engineering institutions in Gujarat. Located at the heart of the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat; it comes as no surprise as it emerges to be one among the most promising engineering colleges of the country.
The Innovation SAL Institute of Technology offers to its students is widely known as it runs alongside research facilities. The institute's innovative research with its patents has developed an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) that gives constant guidance to students who want to start their own enterprise. The Institute is tied with an International Organization called The Young Entrepreneur Association (TYA) which has a Gujarat precedence directed from Silicon Valley, USA. This MOU guides the entrepreneurship of students at the institute. At primary level, the college funds the students to start an enterprise for any good or product that is marketable. The college invests shares, which are refundable after two to three years and the same refunded amount is further invested in similar purposes for further interests of such students. There is monetary assistance that helps in constant rotation of money. For the times in need, SAL Institute of Technology and Engineering Research is tied with banks that help in the initiative toward SME establishment. The students of the institute have already started many SMEs. Dr. Vasani says, "For procuring the order, if a student develops a product that helps in resourcing money the institute invests in it." Along with MOUs, it also has made 135 patents within two years. Most of the patents are product based. Its innovation and research have provided a new platform for students who are willing to go an extra mile with their careers and dreams.
At SAL Institute of Technology experts from industry are called in to give industry exposure as they help in linking industry with institute. Industry specialists have been assigned who deal with almost all subjects. With this, Industrial visit is a compulsory part of the curriculum for all semesters. Online courses regarding the same have also been arranged from IIT Bombay. With respect to this the institute also has online classes that are being developed. For students of the final year, extra classes have been arranged for all tough subjects.
In all of this the faculty at SAL has had a major role to play. Due its location in the center of the city it makes it accessible to most professors and lecturers, far and near, to create the best conventional teaching atmosphere. The institute's total faculty is of Post Graduates. Among these more than 15 are PhD holders, two are post doctorates and more than ten are currently pursuing PhDs. These efforts of teaching and guidance have resulted in placing SAL Institute of Technology and Engineering Research at the top in Civil Engineering. It stands second in the University. In Mechanical Engineering it stands eighth in the University. On the list of best colleges in Gujarat it stands at the eighth slot.
The institute having a vast campus spread across 25 acres has the highest number of student intake in the whole of Gujarat and functions in two shifts as per city norms. Along with good infrastructure, placement opportunities are guaranteed as SAL Institute of Technology has an aggregate of 100 percent placements across all domains of engineering like Mechanical, Electronics and Communication. The Institute is bound to make history with every step of progress it takes.
Rupesh Vasani:
He is the principal of SAL Institute of Engineering and Technology. He is the recipient of five patents and has over 100 patents to be approved. The Civil Engineering scholar was the first candidate who applied for PhD from Gujarat Technological University in Civil Engineering. He is also serving as the Dean of Engineering at Gujarat Technological University with 19 engineering colleges functioning under his leadership.
