Sagi Ramakrishnam Raju Engineering College is one of the best in Andhra Pradesh because of how they instill values and social concern in the students along with superior technical skill.
The environment in the campus of SRKR on 4th April was serene and filled with joy; the first list of top 100 engineering institutions in the country was announced by the Ministry of HRD under the flagship of National Institutional Ranking Framework and the college ranked 78th,making them the only college in Andhra Pradesh to get the ranking. The journey of SRKR started in 1980 when the founder contractor by profession saw that the place did not have any good educational institutions for technical education. In 36 years of this voyage the institution has played a vital role in shaping the picture of technical education in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In the beginning SRKR focused on quality of teaching by introducing faculty development programs and reviewing the teaching pedagogy frequently but soon it was noticed that the industry is changing and that the basic parameters are also changing. Hence, the institution shifted their focus to industrial relations and built themselves a stronghold with many MoUs with reputed organizations such as TCS, AP labs and JCB.
One of the best features of the institution is the social work that they are involved in; most of the researches they are conducting are based on current social issues. Most of the research is funded by the AICTE and UGC. Their consultancy projects are also based on societal problems; the projects they are involved in are funded by the State Irrigation Department and the Panchayat Raj Department. There are 15 ongoing projects under various departments of the institution and many students are involved in the projects. The institution also takes part in the regular clean up drives and the awareness programs and has completed projects that involve environmental apprehension.
Due to the pool of international collaborations the institute maintains the students are also involved in joint research projects. The institution also has student and faculty exchange programs through which the students get exposed to different cultures and environments. Universities such as Sydney University, Virginia University and Netherlands University are the universities the students from SRKR have worked together with on joint projects. The faculty and the students have collaboratively published 4000 papers so far and the faculty also has number of books under their publications list. The institution also organizes seminars and workshops to encourage research among the students.
Skill development center is another feature of the institution that is plausible and the students are able to benefit a lot through it. The center has collaborations with organizations such as NASSCOM, Microsoft and Oracle for different skill trainings, the trainings are provided by the experts from the industry. The institution also maintains collaboration with IIT Madras for online courses on several important aspects of the field. The trainings pays off when the placement drives take place every year; several companies visit the campus and pick the students one by one. The major recruiters of the institution are IBM, TCS and Wipro who offer packages as high as Rs. 12 lakhs. Not only the placements but the institution has also maintained a stellar record in academics such as the GATE and the GRE records. The students from SRKR have always secured good ranks in these exams and the results that can be seen are only because of the coaching they provide on competitive exams to the students throughout the year.
The institution also organizes conferences and workshops that encourage the students for entrepreneurship, more than 1800 students from the institution have become entrepreneurs spread all over the globe. Most of them have ventured into the software field and the core engineering but many have also ventured into other fields and are successfully handling their business as skilled leaders. With a lot of focus on research and development activities the institution has not failed to balance it with other important aspects of the technical education. From skill development to entrepreneurship SRKR delivers quality in every form.
