Their project FREEDOM is a Smart Electronic Helmet designed and developed intended to revolutionize use of helmets in the country. The helmet has been designed to provide optimum safety to the motorcyclists through futuristic features. The smart helmet is said to have some revolutionary features such as intelligent hands free communication i.e. in case of an incoming call, the call can be received if the rider comes to rest thus complying with the law; Accident location alert to Health response unit, Wireless music and most importantly alcohol sensor. With such advantages brought under one innovation, the institute has proved its role as the backbone facilitating such innovations.

Known for their creativity setting several milestones in just 8 years, Sahyadri has achieved milestones winning accolades from all engineering institutes in project exhibitions and gaining popularity having talented minds. Nevertheless, Sahyadri has equal concern for the academics of their students and focuses in enabling a self learning environment. The faculty members consist of some finest experts equally from academics and industries. Among 174 full-time and 26 visiting faculties, every faculty members enable students to cope up with the knowledge factor and transform into innovation. With substantial effort Sahyadri has set their campus as a new base of R&D. Sahyadri is honored with the only Government Research Center, Incubation Centre and Placement & Training Centre in the state. There are many research projects aided by the institute as well as from external funding agencies such as AICTE, Vision Group on Science and Technology, Institution of Engineers and many more. Development of Organic Solar Cells for roof-top Applications, Bimolecular Detection using cw-Terahertz Radiation and Gas Sensor Devices are some of the areas of research carried on currently. To enhance these projects further, Sahyadri has collaborated both with institutions and industry such as Intel, SAP University Alliance, Reliance Jio, IFTR Bombay, iWave Systems and many more.

Attending Inter college events, seminars and workshops adds a new perspective and exposure to both students and faculty members towards better learning.

Some of the very recent proposed plans to upgrade innovation are some state-of-the-art labs such as structural characterization lab, simulation lab, device structure lab to enhance in research projects. Facilitating these Sahyadri has set example of how a change could be brought in less than a decade. Moreover, the institute has an active Entrepreneurship Cell having tie-up with National Entrepreneurship Network which fosters new innovations into products in the market for which the required assistance in its formative years is born by the same.
