Social Commitment: North West Group of Institutions:
The Synonym of Social Empowerment and Commitment
On October 8, 2015 Dhudike, a village in the Moga district of Punjab and the birth place of the great son of the soil and freedom fighter Late Lala Lajpat Rai, became the second village in India to have a free WiFi facility. Although the program was sponsored by the Digital India Mission and Punjab National Bank, North West Group of Institutions that runs Dhudike's one and only engineering college played a key role in this mission. When Reliance Communications, which is the service provider of the free WiFi facility in Dhudike, was on the hunt for a technology partner to create the necessary network in the village, it was North West Group of Institutions that rose to the occasion to help the company and their joint venture implemented the project successfully within the stipulated time frame.
Established in the memory of Late S. Giani Sardara Singh Gill, a great visionary who devoted his entire life to make revolutionary changes for uplifting the life of villager's in all spheres, the institute has been striving towards the growth and development of education, training, industry and social empowerment since its inception in 2008. The institute primarily serves students from more than 250 nearby villages along with the students who come from Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, North East and other states of the country. It provides free of cost transportation and other economic benefits including scholarships and fee waivers to the meritorious and deserving students. Currently, 40 buses travel more than 75,000 kms a month, ferrying students and faculty members from different locations free of cost and is one such initiative to show the commitment of the North West Group of Institutions to benefit maximum students in pursuing their education. North West Group of Institutions also has a unique distinction of being the only institute in the state that has received grants from the central government under "Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana" to construct hostels to facilitate both girls and boys students belonging to the weaker section of the society. Meanwhile, faculty, students and staff of North West Group of Institutions regularly conducts free eye check up camps, blood donation camps, tree plantation drives and anti drug drives, the management has also ensured that the technical education that they have been providing is of the highest academic standards.
"The vision was very clear from the beginning; we wanted to serve the local community by providing facilities that are at par with any technical education centers in the country. Hence, from setting up the necessary infrastructure to providing academically stimulating environment and activities, we have ensured that our students get the best possible technical education in the country," claims Dr. N. K. Maheshwari, Director, North West Group of Institutions. Supported by more than 110 topnotch faculty members who believe in the motto 'Learning by Doing and Generating More Ideas,' the institute has developed an academic curriculum that helps students in ensuring a sustainable future in this technology driven and rapidly changing world. "Although, we are located in the countryside, we are a well-known brand for quality education delivery and holistic personality development in the state of Punjab. This has enabled us to connect with many industries, garner their support and undertake industry academia interface activities like workshops, seminars, conferences and many value added programs involving Industry experts," says Dr. Maheshwari.
While, the management is keen on conducting CEO Meets and HR Conclaves to strengthen their relationship with industries, the institute has already singed MoUs with numerous multinational organizations that include SIEMENS, Dexler Info Solutions, Oracle and others. Under these MoUs students can earn internationally recognized certifications of SAP, Cisco, Microsoft, Red Hat and Intel. The success of such modern training methodologies is evidently noticed as more than 70 percent of graduating students have been placed with packages ranging between Rs. 2.8 to Rs. 4.5 Lakhs per annum. North West Group is also one of the major centers in the Punjab where central government's skill development program for youths has been taking place, which again goes to show the institute's commitment to empower the surrounding communities.
Today, with more than 2,500 students on the campus, North West Group is not only a technological hub where corporate companies visit in search of their future talent. "After the first year, students can go for our specially designed soft-skill programs or they can opt for entrepreneurship program where individual faculty members with respective qualifications guide them until they taste their first success,"claims Dr. N K Maheshwari. The institute's entrepreneurship training program that majorly runs with mentoring activities, is a unique platform for enterprising students to meet successful businessmen across the world and share their ideas to get seed funding for their businesses. While the institute is already equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and ground-breaking teaching delivery models, the management is highly confident on the way forward. "We want to consolidate our brand and its quality aspects. Therefore, we are establishing a smart card system, which would make us ERP-enabled campus. We also want to improve our quality of delivery by undertaking innovative methods of teaching delivery system. Thus, uplifting ourselves as one of the premier education institutions in the country," concludes Dr. Maheshwari.
