The doors of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College were opened to engineering students in the year 1994. The institute which is an autonomous institution and affiliated to Anna University, is spread over 42 acres of flourishing green land and provides Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees in Engineering which have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.

The buzzword the college uses is holistic development. It ensures that all its students at the end of their studies are ready to face the industry head on. When the courses are about to begin all the students are taken to an outbound location where they are trained to develop team building, organizational and leadership qualities and gain confidence. To strengthen their students physically SREC conducts a variety of outdoor sports and has created two trophies like SNR Chinnasamy Naidu Trophy and S.N. Rangasamy Naidu Rolling trophy.
Curriculum:
Every year the board of studies at SREC consisting of various members from the industry, academic institutions, research establishments and alumni working in leading positions decide on the new electives being offered by the college. Based on the co-create and co-teach model, new electives are created by the institute and board which give the students an opportunity to enhance their specialization and knowledge. The industry people will further help in the formation of contents, provide the relevant training to the faculty and even take a few sessions with the students.
Academic Resources:
The institute has state of the art facilities for all the courses which will help students and faculty members to gain more practical knowledge whether they are in the classroom or doing research in the lab. To encourage students to take up real life projects, SREC has set up a few facilities to carry out interactions with the industry. The library has more than 70,000 volumes of books and a host of digital contents and are accessible to students and faculty members even after college hours.
Faculty:
The faculty members at SREC have a rich experience. This fact combined with an excellent retention rate has enabled the faculty members to really make a difference in the learning process and enhance the students learning experiences. Out of the 300 faculty members, the institute has more than 56 PhD holders and about 100 faculty members are currently pursuing their PhD studies. A unique fact about the faculty members at SREC is that they also act as mentors to the students and provide assistance in any way possible which will lighten the pressure on the students.
As SREC has signed MoUs with many foreign universities, the institute sends few of their faculty members for exchange programs. This in turn helps them improve their knowledge which they can pass on to the students on return.

Research & Extension Activities
The college receives funding from AICTE, Ministry of Science and Technology and other organizations like Councils of Scientific and Industrial Research, Tamil Nadu state Research,council for Science and Technology , DRDO etc., to conduct various events, workshops and research activities. Entrepreneurship is encouraged and the institute has established an AICTE funded Entrepreneurship Development Cell. They also encourage campus ventures such as students setting up a stall and handling everything from procurement of the needed items to selling of items and even adding new particulars.
Clubs, Cultural Activities and Sports:
SREC prides its students' sports accomplishments and keeps encouraging them to participate in a variety of sporting activities. The college has set up the necessary infrastructure to help its students train for various sports competitions and ensure to send them to represent the college at district, zonal and even national levels. In order to further promote participation in sports activities, SREC offers 25 percent concession in college fees to students who perform exceptionally well in various sporting events. The college has also set up a fine arts and cultural club where students are encouraged to participate in music, dance and other forms of art.
Dr. N.R. Alamelu, Principal:
She holds a Ph.D in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. Prior to this, she obtained her Masters Degree in Applied Electronics from Madras University and she has 32 years of academic experience at various engineering institutes and about 10 years of research experience along with 50 research publications to her credit in journals and conferences. She has successfully guided a number of Masters Projects from leading institutions and presently 6 students are pursuing PhD, under her guidance. She is the Chair Person of IEEE Communication Society Chapter and Chair Person of IEEE, Madras Section, Life time Member in ISTE and Fellow in IETE.
