Jaideep Banerjee, Head of Operation, UWSL
We are living in a society where the global, economic and social scenarios are changing at a fast pace. Accordingly, the legal study is evolving and there is no better time than now to pursue a career in law. Realizing this enormous need for the legal education, Unitedworld Group of Institutions laid the foundation for Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. As a part of the Unitedworld Group of Institutions, which believes in the philosophy of positive change, innovation, growth and nation building, UWSL strives hard to bring betterment in the nation through legal education and aims to effectively contribute and strengthen the justice delivery system.
"Our institute is a top notch law school in Western India, offering five-year integrated BBA-LLB program and is recognized by Bar Council of India , New Delhi. UWSL differs from other law schools in its unique pedagogy. Our pedagogy starts with the campus surroundings," says Jaideep Banerjee, Head of Operations , Unitedworld School of Law (UWSL). UWSL believes in the ideology of the famous naturalist John Muir, who once said that "in every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks". The lush greenery of the college not only provides an affable environment, but also positivity for the students to bring out their best.
UWSL offers smart classrooms having state-of-the art facilities where faculties take sessions with the help of PPTs as well as audio-visual clippings, documentaries and short films.
UWSL offers smart classrooms having state-of-the art facilities where faculties take sessions with the help of PPTs as well as audio-visual clippings, documentaries and short films. In the classrooms, the faculty members make use of the effectiveness of seminar presentation where students are given the opportunity to present their views through short PPT presentations, oral presentations and so on. Apart from this, the special artistic talents of students are also used to explain laws to the students as well as the real life beneficiaries. At UWSL, the students continue to have a unique experience of acquiring quality education under the guidance of experienced and acknowledged legal experts and honourable senior judges. "Through Moot Court sessions, debates and conferences, the students will learn to apply advanced concepts and their ideas in intricate and complex legal environment. This practice and expert guidance makes our school as one of the best in the country," claims Banerjee.
UWSL offers several other legal subjects including environmental law, laws related to children, including Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act, laws related to women's rights, LGBT rights, sports law, maritime law and many more. The institute believes that legal education can best be implemented through clinical legal education where students may be exposed to real life problems so that they understand the core value of law from the perspective of the beneficiaries. For this, UWSL has established the Centre for Research on Law and Policy (Research Centre), which is headed by Dr. Debarati Halder, who is an internationally acclaimed researcher and resource person on gender, cyber laws, child rights and Therapeutic Jurisprudence.
Further, UWSL also believes in holistic growth of the faculties as well as the students for which the institute conducts various activities. "Students were taken for an educational tour to Gir forest to learn about animal human conflict. They also attended lectures delivered by the forest officers on forest laws and environmental laws. Later assistant professors Sonia Shali, Archita Prajapati and Visharad Shukla also engaged the students to collect data for an empirical research on the same," states Banerjee.
UWSL had also conducted an open air awareness camp on POCSO Act within the UWSL campus with the fourth class staffs including peons, sweepers and gardeners where Dr. Halder had not only enlightened the participants about POCSO Act, but also demonstrated specific reporting technique through traditional dance 'Mudras,' which were conceptualized by students. These students were first taught about POCSO Act and Rules which spoke about different reporting mechanism for sexual violence for children who may be too young to express in language or even may be traumatized. "This project, which was the brain child of Dr. Halder was also presented in the International Conference of Indian Society of Victimology held at Nirma University, Ahmedabad during February, 2017 receiving recognition & accolades ," informs Jaideep Banerjee.
The UWSL campus is always buzzing with some or the other activity throughout the year, which make the 5-year long-stay of the students fun-filled and memorable, making the UWSL students best among others.
