Nagaland Univ Launches 4-Year UG Science at MDRC

Nagaland University has launched new four-year undergraduate science programmes at its Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre (MDRC), which represents an important milestone in higher education modernization according to National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 standards.

The programs offer students an adaptable learning environment that combines research activities with multiple academic disciplines to meet current academic and industrial requirements. The 2026 academic session will accept applications from students across the country starting on April 27 and ending on May 18.

The newly introduced courses cover core science disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, and Botany. The curriculum offers fundamental subjects together with ability enhancement courses and value-added courses which provide students with a complete academic experience.

The programmes use a Flexible Choice-Based Credit System which enables students to customize their educational experience while studying multiple disciplines. The system requires students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills which they need for professional work and advanced education.

The program provides multiple entry and exit pathways which represent its most distinctive characteristic. The students can exit the program after one year by obtaining a certificate or after two years by obtaining a diploma or after three years by obtaining a bachelor's degree or they can continue their studies for one additional year to receive a research-focused bachelor's degree.

The students who finish the four-year research track will gain eligibility for direct admission to PhD programs according to the established regulations.

The initiative establishes a foundation for academic excellence which enables students to develop their innovative skills and critical thinking abilities and research competencies. The university intends to achieve its goal of complete educational development through NEP 2020 implementation which will establish career and postgraduate study opportunities for students.
